Raku is a primitive, unpredictable firing process, often giving beautiful, unique results, but it is not without dangers including live flames and noxious fumes. It is perhaps not a suitable medium for persons suffering from asthma. Objective: To have fun in the country while gaining knowledge and an appreciation for the unique process of Raku firing.
Special request for supplies: Anyone with access to dry, fine sawdust (not from pressure treated wood) is asked to bring it to the workshop and advise organizers ahead of time that you can provide it. Each participant can also bring a small bag of newspaper.
Note: This workshop takes place outdoors, so it is necessary to dress appropriately for the temperature and weather conditions in natural-fibre attire where possible. Tie long hair back.
