Text Box: The Guild

Quilt Square on the Mississauga Arts Council quilt.

The Guild was founded in 1977 as a non-profit community based volunteer organization with a mandate to operate as a community resource in the art and craft of pottery.  The Guild advances the Art & Craft of pottery by providing a studio for its members, classes (adult and children) for those in the community interested in the craft and by involvement with other volunteer, educational and charitable groups in the community.

Community Involvement

The Guild has participated in many community activities over the years, including the Mississauga Children's Festival and the Children's Raku Experience. We have hosted a hands-on workshop for organizations such as New Beginnings group (New Chinese Canadians) and Big Brothers and have donated art pieces in support of Big Sisters. Each year, the Mississauga Potters' Guild contributes bowls to the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art's annual Empty Bowl fundraiser.

The Guild sustains its efforts by charging membership fees and class fees, and by holding craft sales and workshops. It is also the grateful recipient of grants from the Mississauga Arts Council and The Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Monthly meetings are open to visitors and include demonstrations and workshops presented by invited guest speakers and guild members. There is also a lending library of books, periodicals and tapes for members.

Regular newsletters keep members informed on guild and other ceramic related activities in the region and Show & Sales provide a market for member created wares.
